Make-up is not about masking your true self and changing your natural features. It is all about enhancing your beauty by reflecting your own self. A perfect makeup won’t make you look extraordinarily beautiful; it will make you look effortlessly beautiful, “You”.

To get a natural and flawless makeup finish, you need to follow a dedicated ritual. The ritual can be a quick one for everyday look, and sometimes needs your time and patience for a special, occasional makeup. You can be quick with your ritual, but never in a hurry; there is a difference. Proper makeup requires patience and dedication, but most importantly, you should know “Dos” and “Don’ts”.

Especially during this hot, humid summertime, if your makeup is not done right, be prepared for a meltdown. You may have invested in high-end products and you look just wow, but the moment you step out, your perfectly shaped cat eye may look like a panda eye. Oops, scary, right?

This happens a lot during this hot and humid weather. To avoid this makeup smudge and meltdown, you need to avoid the five important makeup mistakes.

We all know how to do basic, simple makeup, and many of us are pros, but what we always skip on is ignoring or not knowing about the makeup mistakes that can cause all the blunders. In this blog, we will discuss these five makeup mistakes that will save you from outdoor embarrassment.

5 Makeup Mistakes You Need To Avoid

Avoid these five summertime blunders to keep your makeup looking fresh and avoid melting in hot, muggy weather:

Mistake 1: Skipping Primer

I totally get it, you don’t feel like applying too many products on your skin during the summertime. But primer is very essential for your skin prep. Imagine your skin as a canvas, and if it is not smooth, anything you apply will either patch out or melt down.

Primer is more than just "extra"; it's the key to applying makeup flawlessly, particularly in our humid climate.

For dry skin, if you don't use primer, foundation will settle into flakes, and your skin may appear uneven. On oily skin, sweat seeps into makeup, causing smearing and smudging. Without a primer, even combination skin finds it difficult to balance dry cheeks and oily T-zones.

Solution:

  • Go for a light-weight primer, either water-based, or matiffying or say oil-free.

  •  For oily or combination skin type, choose the mattifying primer; for dry or sensitive skin type, go for a water-based one.

  • Avoid primers that contain heavy silicon blams and are sticky, oily, and glowy.

  • You may also opt for primers with SPF, as we do not want to apply many products on our skin during the summertime.

Mistake 2: Heavy Foundation

In the summer, wearing heavy foundation can suffocate your skin and make it prone to melting. Instead of heavy formulas, use tinted moisturizers or other tinted light-weight products and restrict foundation for the big evening events. Applying foundation on a hot sunny day is a complete no-no. Skipping the same step won’t let you compromise on a flawless finish if you replace it with correct alternatives.

Allow your skin to breathe with lighter-tinted products if you want to maintain your base perfectly in hot, humid weather.

Solution:

  • Use breathable alternatives, such as BB creams or tinted sunscreens, in place of full-coverage liquid foundation.

  •  For oily skin type, to better absorb perspiration and sebum, use powder foundations.

  • Apply a tiny bit of concealer only where necessary (such as beneath the eyes or on imperfections) and blend it outward rather than covering your entire face with foundation.

  • For dry and combination skin, opt for a BB or CC cream that will give you a glowy, hydrating finish along with light moisturization.

  • Always carry a hydrating face mist to refresh dry, sun-damaged makeup and restore a natural glow.

Mistake 3: Applying Wrong Concealer

Using the wrong concealer in this heat can rapidly result in melting, creasing, or a harsh, ashy look. If the concealer shade is too light, using an extremely light concealer in bright summer daylight might make you look grey. And, if the shade is excessively dark, it can highlight dark circles and falsely shade your face. Even for concealers, go for a light-weight formulation as a thick formulation can settle into fine lines and cause creasing.

Solution:

  • For cool undertones (pink/reddish skin), use peach or pink-toned concealer.

  • For warm undertones (yellow/golden skin), choose golden or orange-based hues.

  • And, for neutral use beige or neutral colors.

  • Choose a shade that disappears into your skin and always use a tiny amount of the product.

  • Lastly, set it with translucent powder to avoid smudging and creasing.

Mistake 4: Overdoing Your Eyes

We all have a tough time when it comes to eye makeup. It is indeed the most crucial part of the makeup that can make or break the entire look. During summer daytime, you may go simpler with eye makeup, like just the eye shadow with mascara or just the liner. For special nighttime events, you may go for a smoky or heavy eye makeup look, but you need to choose your products wisely.

Avoid thick eyeliner, clumpy eyeshadow, and heavy mascara. All these can eventually smudge and make your eyes look scary. Even indoors, air conditioners dry up items, causing them to crack or fade unevenly. Bold wings bleed into fine lines, creamy formulas wrinkle, and non-waterproof mascara tends to flake.

Solution:

  • Apply powdery eye shadow, waterproof liners, and light-weight mascara.

  • If you want to go for a bold eyeliner look, go for it and do not mix it up with other eye makeup elements.

  • For the daytime, opt for neutral matte eyeshadow. Save the sparkle for the evenings.

  • Most importantly, never forget to prep your eyelids before applying any eye makeup. Use eye primer and top it with translucent powder to absorb excess oil.

Mistake 5: Sleeping With Makeup On

This is the biggest mistake that you must avoid with no excuses. After a long, eventful night where you and your makeup perfectly slayed along, you end up passing out to sleep with your makeup on. This is the worst nightmare you will wake up with the next day. No surprise you are going to have all your uninvited, not-so-skin-friendly guests: acne, breakouts, dullness, irritated skin, and a lot more.

The tiredness you had last night will definitely show on your face. The leftover makeup products on your skin will combine with sweat and oil, thus blocking pores and providing a breeding ground for bacteria. By morning, your skin may appear greasy, dull, and harsh, and you may have unwanted guests on your face.

Solution:

  • Always double cleanse, no matter how dead tired you are.

  • First, use a makeup remover to wipe out oil-based products.

  • And then use a gentle foaming face wash to clear all the dirt from your face.

  • Lastly, use a cleansing balm to strip off everything unwanted.

  • Pat it dry and apply a light-weight moisturizer, and let your skin breathe. Your skin will surely thank you with a morning glow.

Time To Wrap Up

Makeup is not only about doing all the steps right, but you also need to be aware of the mistakes you need to avoid to maintain a picture-perfect look for a longer duration. Never overdo makeup, let your natural features shine, and do the magic. And, especially for summer, always remember less is more. Just as you prefer lighter clothes during summer heat, even your skin prefer lesser and lighter products to breathe.

Now that you know very well about all the “Makeup Don’ts”  there is no point in making any makeup mistakes. You and your makeup are all set to shine and glow throughout the entire day.
