The first thought we have when we hear the name Argentina, and especially during this time of the FIFA World Cup, is about their legendary soccer players. Argentina is worldwide famous for its all-time great athletes like Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona. As per the current FIFA World Cup 2026 match updates, Argentina is so far ranked number 1 as they scored a perfect 3 for 3 in Group J during the group stage. They are moving on to the Knockout Stage.

Okay, now enough of the soccer-famous Argentina. Argentina has many other things to boast about. If you have any plans to visit this country, you will surely go crazy about a lot more things here other than Maradona and Messi.

Argentina is one of the most diverse and fascinating countries in South America. No matter which direction you go, every place here will surprise you. Starting from the bustling town of Buenos Aires, the vast open plains of the Pampas, to the freezing glacier range in Patagonia, every place here is a traveller's dream.

Argentina's history is fascinating due to its hybrid culture. It is heavily influenced by European and Spanish cultures, which combined have shaped Argentina's identity.

Whether you're a traveller who is drawn towards natural wonders, in search of cultural treasures, or who loves different unique culinary delights, Argentina never disappoints you. There is so much to see and discover here, from gauchos riding horses in the countryside to urban neighborhoods brimming with cafés and street art and unending tempting culinary options to entice your taste buds.

Apart from football, the country is famous for its beautiful places to explore, tango, and mouthwatering steaks.

In this blog, we will introduce you to some of Argentina's most famous things to look for other than soccer.

5 Famous Things To Do/ Visit in Argentina

Teatro Colon

The Teatro Colón is one of the world's grandest opera halls, located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is considered one of the world's best theaters and a masterpiece of design featuring early-twentieth-century grandeur. The theatre covers the whole city block in the heart of Buenos Aires and can hold up to 3,000 people. It is highly famous for having the world's best acoustics for opera.

Designers from Germany, Italy, and France have dazzled their art here. The interior is designed with gold leaf, stunning stained glass, and marble columns. The Golden Hall (Salón Dorado) is coated in gold and resembles a regal palace. The curving space and velvety materials work together well to deliver clear sound and view to every seat.

El Caminito

El Caminito is a popular tourist attraction known for its colourful open-air museum, vibrant tenement homes, and the famous street in La Boca near Buenos Aires. This place was built mostly by the immigrants coming from Italy. The colourful, vibrant houses were made using scrap ship materials and were painted with leftover marine paints found on the ships.

During the 1950s, the abandoned railway area was revamped into a colourful art gallery and museum by a local artist, Benito Quinquela Martín.

Juan de Dios Filiberto wrote a well-known tango song in 1926 that was inspired by the same street. These days, street dancers can often be seen performing on the cobblestones, and couples dancing tango in the street, with the sounds of more tango floating out of surrounding pubs adding to the scene.

Unique Wildlife

Believe it or not, Argentina is one of the best places to witness unique wildlife. One of the greatest locations in the world for whale viewing and dolphin spotting is Puerto Madryn, the entry point to Patagonia's barren but stunning Peninsula Valdés. During certain seasons of the year, you can take a boat ride to see southern right whales and rare Commerson's dolphins, which are vibrant, black-and-white animals that resemble little orcas.

If you visit Punta Tombo, which is home to a big colony of captivating Magellanic penguins, and wild Punta Loma, where you may witness a permanent sea lion colony and cormorant rookery. Large, blubbery elephant seals, which are there all year round, can also be seen. Keep an eye out for foxes, armadillos, and guanacos, which are closely related to llamas and can be seen in the wild in Argentina, inland from the wave-pounded shore.

Tango

If there’s one thing, to name other than soccer, Argentina is famous for its tango. A trip to Buenos Aires wouldn't be complete without a tango performance. African, Cuban, and European traditions were combined to create this seductive, passionate street dance in the late 19th century. Whether you stop to see street dancers in La Boca or at the San Telmo Market, or take in a professional performance in one of the city's numerous tango palaces, it's sure to blow your mind.

Argentina's distinctive diversity is reflected in the tango's varied blend of cultures and traditions. Your trip to Argentina will not be complete if you yourself do not participate in this captivating dance form. Either at a salon de baile, or dance hall, where anyone can attend to dance. And if you are seriously interested in learning, there are several tango classes available around the city for all skill levels to enroll in.

Asado

In Argentina, the asado is a treasured cultural custom that goes much beyond a simple BBQ. Asado is a traditional Argentinian barbeque method of cooking meat, steaks, ribs, chicken, chorizo sausages, lamb, and pork over an open fire. An asado is served with a variety of salads and complemented with plenty of good Argentine red wine, including velvety Malbecs that are among the greatest in the world.

It is deeply ingrained in the national identity and can be traced back to the gauchos (cowboys) of the past. It goes beyond cuisine to symbolize equality, community, and a traditional method of greeting and interacting with others. It is more than a traditional cuisine; this is an age-old practice coming from generations that brings in and binds friends, family, and new members together to spend quality time with the mouth-watering traditional delicacy.

You will find many asado restaurants in the town; make sure to visit one to taste and experience their tradition.

Wrapping Up

I can continue, and the list of famous things in Argentina will be never-ending. I have listed just five famous places and things to do when in Argentina. Apart from the above list, there are a lot more to explore, like the famous Beagle Channel, Ushuaia, and Iguazú Falls. In short, Argentina is undoubtedly famous for Maradona and Messi, but it has more to offer.

Argentina will undoubtedly become another favorite destination for travelers due to its diverse scenery, vibrant culture, beautiful architecture, and meat-lovers' heaven.
